Brugge Ready To Throw Campbell In The Firing Line

Shandre Campell is reportedly in line for a prominent first team role at Club Brugge.

Club Brugge are reportedly considering giving Shandre Campbell more first-team opportunities ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Before the start of last season, the South African teenager made a big move to Belgium’s second most successful club, signing for €800 000 (R16.5 million). While he joined the senior team, Campbell spent most of the campaign with Club NXT — the club’s reserve side competing in the Belgian second division.

He impressed in that environment, scoring on his debut and finishing the season with nine goals and two assists. His standout performances earned him a first-team call-up later in the season.

Campbell made his senior debut for the 19-time Jupiler Pro League champions on 15 February 2025, coming on for a late cameo in a 2-2 draw against Sint-Truiden. He featured once more, playing seven minutes in the final game of the season — a 1-1 draw with Royal Antwerp.

This transfer window, Brugge sold highly-rated winger Chemsdine Talbi to English Championship outfit Sunderland AFC, potentially creating a clearer pathway for the former SuperSport United starlet to feature more prominently in the upcoming season.

Campbell also found the net in Brugge’s most recent friendly against Croatian side NK Lokomotiva Zagreb, further boosting his chances. According to Voetbalkrant, the club appreciate the youngster’s quality and recognise his immense potential.

While Brugge is open to integrating him more regularly into the first team, there is some caution about whether he’s ready to make an immediate impact — with the club reportedly still exploring winger options in the market.
