The Sporting CP striker was the subject of a move away from the Portuguese side following his performances in the past two seasons. The former Coventry City striker netted 97 goals in 102 games for the Green and Whites as he led them to back-to-back Primeira Liga titles, according to Transfermarkt.
Gyokeres was hotly-tipped to join his former manager Ruben Amorim at Manchester United but Arsenal have stepped up their pursuit for the Swede as they search for a new striker.
The ex-Swansea City player revealed recently that he did not intend to return to the Lions for pre-season training as his future at the Jose Alvalade looks to be over.
Reports from Spanish outlet AS revealed that Arsenal reached an 'agreement' with Sporting to sign the striker for a reported fee of €63,5 million (R1,3 billion), which could rise by an extra €10 million (R207 million) with add-ons and easy guarantees.
