Kaizer Chiefs bagged their first win in pre-season after defeating Dutch Eredivisie side PEC Zwolle 1-0 on Tuesday evening.
New signings Thabiso Monyane, Nkanyiso Shinga and Flavio da Silva were named in the Chiefs starting line-up, while Aden McCarthy continued alongside Inacio Miguel in central defence.
Zwolle enjoyed most of the possession in the early stages of the first half, but they were unable to carve out chances against a Chiefs side, who were holding their defensive shape quite well.
Chiefs got their first chance against the run of play on 31 minutes when Da Silva was slipped through on goal, however the striker sent his effort well over the crossbar with only the Zwolle goalkeeper to beat.
The Dutch outfit should have taken the lead in the final five minutes after neat passing move sent Dylan Mbayo through on goal, however the forward fired wide with the goal at his mercy.
Chiefs, however, got the goal in the first eight minutes of the second period as young Naledi Hlongwane, who replaced Da Silva, made the most of his chance with a close-range finish after Mduduzi Shabalala's shot hit the upright.
Coach Nasreddine Nabi rang the changes soon after as Ethan Chislett, Mfundo Vilakazi, Gaston Sirino, George Matlou and Reeve Frosler were among the players introduced for the final 30 minutes.
Chiefs nearly added to their lead with two minutes left on the clock when Vilakzi was teed up on the edge of the 18-yard area by Sirino, but his first-time strike tipped over the crossbar by the Zwolle goalkeeper as the encounter finished 1-0.
Chiefs will take on FC Twente in their final friendly on Wednesday evening.
