Siwelele FC appear to have missed out on their two primary coaching targets, forcing the club to reassess their options as the new season draws near.

The Siya crew has been informed that the Free State outfit, who inherited much of the SuperSport United infrastructure following the sale of their status, made bold moves for two high-profile names: Rulani Mokwena and Steven Pienaar. But both approaches have failed to materialise into appointments.

Mokwena, following his sudden departure from Wydad Casablanca, was believed to be one of the club’s top priorities. However, he has since been appointed as the new head coach of MC Alger in Algeria, ruling out any chance of a return to the PSL.

Pienaar, meanwhile, remains a wildcard.

The former Bafana Bafana captain and UEFA Pro Licence holder was also contacted, but he is understood to be continuing in his role at Sharjah FC in Dubai, where he coaches the U15 team. Despite his impressive credentials as a player and youth coach, with previous experience at Ajax Amsterdam, Pienaar is yet to take charge of a senior team, and a move back to South Africa appears unlikely at this stage.

With both of their top targets unavailable, Siwelele have now turned their attention to Lehlohonolo Seema. Siya insiders have indicated that the former Chippa United and Polokwane City boss has emerged as a strong candidate, and talks are believed to be progressing.

While the club has not officially confirmed its next head coach, time is running out ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. Seema’s experience in South African football and familiarity with the domestic league structure make him an increasingly logical fit.

In the meantime, former Bafana Bafana striker Mark Williams is quietly laying the foundations at the club. Siya sources understand that he’s been tasked with leading the DStv Diski Challenge (DDC) side and has already begun instilling a youth-driven philosophy.
