During the recent transfer window, the 20-year-old shocked the football fraternity when Orlando Pirates announced that he had completed a move to Saudi outfit Al Ettifaq.
The Kimberley native burst onto the scene last season after being promoted from the Buccaneers’ DStv Diski Challenge side, and he quickly established himself as a pivotal member of Jose Riveiro’s team.
Following the conclusion of the 2024/25 campaign, Nkota received his first senior South Africa call-up for friendlies against Tanzania and Mozambique. Against the latter, he provided two assists on his first start for Bafana Bafana.
It seems he has set a precedent for making an impact in debut starts, as on Thursday night, during The Knight of Ad-Dahna’s season opener against Al Kholood, Nkota needed just seven minutes to find the back of the net and open his account in the oil-rich kingdom.
John Buckley levelled matters later in the first half for the opposition, but former Liverpool star Georginio Wijnaldum restored Al Ettifaq’s lead in the 61st minute, securing a winning start to the new Saudi topflight season with three points on the board.

Earlier that day, Hugo Broos confirmed Nkota’s inclusion in his latest Bafana Bafana squad as they prepare for crucial FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Nigeria. Here too, the pacey attacker will be hoping to continue his impressive start to the season.
