The Saudi side had already signed one Orlando Pirates youngster this transfer window after bringing in Mohau Nkota, and the club had reportedly turned their attention back to Soweto to try and lure Mofokeng.
According to Foot Africa, Al-Ettifaq have reportedly made a U-turn in their pursuit of Mofokeng after the club failed to reach any agreement with the Buccaneers to bring the 20-year-old to the Middle East.
This, despite previous reports indicating that the Saudi Pro League side had been in active negotiations with Pirates to strike a deal, but seemingly decided to pull the plug on the deal, according to Foot Africa.
Mofokeng was also believed to be the subject of interest from Major League Soccer (MLS) side Minnesota United, who had reportedly submitted a bid of over $2 million (R35 million) for Mofokeng’s services.
However, the deadline for MLS clubs to make signings has passed making it very unlikely that the forward joins Minnesota United in the near future.
