The story
Bafana Bafana international Yusuf Maart is steadily settling into life at Austrian club SV Ried, as he grows more comfortable both on and off the pitch.
The midfielder, who made the move from South Africa to Europe ahead of the 2025/26 season, is seemingly adapting well to life in Europe, embracing the fresh challenge and showing early signs of building strong chemistry within the squad, including fellow South African Antonia van Wyk.
Maart's transition to life in Austria has been well documented on his Instagram, where he recently posted a story of himself, van Wyk and teammate Ekain Azkune goofing around on camera.
The 30-year-old has already made two competitive appearances for Ried in the league and cup, winning 5-0 on debut and enjoying a short cameo in their league opener against Red Bull Salzburg.
Maart's club has made more effort in introducing him to their supporters, and on Thursday, they posted a Q&A video of the Amakhosi's Nedbank Cup hero fielding a series of soft questions.
When asked which three words describe him best, Maart noted his discipline, humility and positivity.
In terms of what motivates him, Maart named his home town in the Mother City, Atlantis.
"I think where I come from, in Atlantis, Cape Town, I come from a small town. It always motivates me as a person, including my mother and my kids," said Maart.
Watch below as Maart shared a message to the SV Ried fans to keep supporting the side through highs and lows a season can bring:
