Dr Khoza was referencing a study from Brand Finance Africa from earlier this year, which revealed the Springboks as South Africa's strongest sports brand, sitting comfortably above Soweto giants, Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.
According to the research by Brand Finance Africa, the Boks earned a brand strength index of 91.9, significantly higher than Pirates (83.2) and Chiefs (82.6).
The study revealed that 56% of South African sports fans consider the Springboks their favourite team, significantly outperforming other sports teams, including the Proteas Men at 48%, and Pirates with 21% and Chiefs with 25%.
The Pirates chairman also shared a lovely moment at the event with the aforementioned ex-players.
