Outspoken former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Junior Khanye has once again pulled no punches in assessing his former club’s transfer business, expressing disappointment over Amakhosi’s failure to sign what he considers to be top-quality players, including a “proper top-class goalkeeper.”
In an exclusive interview with the Siya crew, Khanye lamented the lack of decisive moves by Chiefs during the current transfer window, arguing that the club has missed out on key opportunities to strengthen where it matters most.

“I’m very disappointed that Kaizer Chiefs haven’t signed a top goalkeeper. I’m talking about a proper top-class goalkeeper,” said Khanye.
Khanye reiterated that Chiefs, as one of South Africa’s most iconic football institutions, should be operating at a much higher level when it comes to transfer dealings.
“You can’t blame people for their love of the club because that is a great institution, and a legacy has been built there. And that legacy wasn’t built easy or in a few years. It took many years for the club to be where it is now,” he explained.
However, the former Amakhosi star remains critical of the club’s current squad and recruitment strategy, stating that more players from last season should have been released.
“I am not satisfied with how the club has done its business so far during the transfer window. I feel a lot more players should have been released from last season’s squad. I’ve spoken a lot about how I would have loved to see Sipho Mbule at Kaizer Chiefs, and it didn’t happen,” said Khanye.
The 40-year-old, known for his unfiltered opinions, also expressed frustration at the club missing out on left-back Fawaaz Basadien, who recently completed a move to Mamelodi Sundowns from Stellenbosch FC.
“I expected Chiefs to sign Basadien, but that too didn’t happen, as we all know now that he is a Sundowns player.”
Khanye has now called on Chiefs to do more in the market, using the recent reports linking Neo Maema with a move abroad as an example of another potential target slipping away.
“I see now that Neo Maema is being linked with a move to Tanzania, but why can’t Chiefs try to get him? I don’t buy into the stories that Chiefs could be struggling financially. I don’t want to hear that. That club has got the budget to sign quality players,” he said.

Citing the case of Mbule, who recently signed for Orlando Pirates after being released by Sundowns, Khanye questioned the club’s scouting and management structures.
“Sipho Mbule was a free agent, and that’s how Pirates got him. Now we are not talking about a transfer fee here, because the boy had been released from Sundowns. I blame the management and the scouting department at Chiefs for how they have missed out on some of the players they could have signed,” concluded Khanye.
With the transfer window still open, it remains to be seen if Amakhosi might still make headline signings this month.
