Former PSL boss Romain Folz has reportedly lined up a number of pre-season friendlies for his new side, Young Africans SC, against South African clubs.

Earlier this month, the French-born tactician was unveiled as Yanga’s latest head coach following the departure of Miloud Hamdi, who left the Tanzanian giants to join Egyptian outfit Ismaily.

Folz will have a high bar to clear ahead of the 2025/26 season, with the Wananchi having claimed four domestic titles in the previous campaign alone. As such, adequate preparation will be imperative if the club are to maintain—or even exceed—their recent success.

According to The Citizen, Yanga are expected to begin their pre-season on 1 August 2025 in their hometown of Dar es Salaam. The opening phase of their preparations will be held in the Tanzanian capital until mid-August, before the squad travels to Kigali, Rwanda, where they are scheduled to face Rayon Sports FC on 17 August.

Following that clash, the squad will return to the outskirts of Dar es Salaam to resume camp, but their travels do not end there. The final leg of their pre-season is set to take place in South Africa.

Folz is no stranger to the South African football landscape, having previously coached Marumo Gallants, AmaZulu, and Mamelodi Sundowns. His familiarity with the environment will no doubt be useful as Yanga embark on a series of competitive friendlies against clubs from the Betway Premiership.

The same report claims that the matches are designed to supplement the side’s high-intensity training, with the goal of enhancing match fitness, tactical cohesion, and team chemistry under real match conditions.

This marks the second consecutive season in which Yanga will visit the southern tip of the continent during pre-season, following their participation in the inaugural Toyota Cup against Kaizer Chiefs last year.
