With Chelsea set to spend a massive €58 million (R1.2 billion) on Brazilian star Joao Pedro, here are the 10 most expensive transfers the Blues have completed.
The 22-year-old striker looks set to become the latest Brighton & Hove Albion talent to make the move from the Amex Stadium to Stamford Bridge. Once the transfer of the Selecao representative is completed, the west Londoners will have spent just over €300 million (R6.2 billion) over the past three years on recruiting players and technical staff from the Seagulls.
One player, however, accounts for a significant portion of that figure. In 2023, Chelsea paid €116 million (R2.4 billion) for the services of Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo. The predominantly defensive midfielder had enhanced his reputation with standout performances during his three years on the south coast of England.
While Caicedo’s transfer fee could still rise further with add-ons, the current record for the most expensive Chelsea player belongs to Enzo Fernandez. The Argentine World Cup winner arrived in the English capital six months before Caicedo, with the two-time UEFA Champions League winners paying Benfica €121 million (R2.5 billion) for his signature.
The South American pair now appear to be forming a formidable midfield partnership, and will be showcasing their talents together for the first time in the UEFA Champions League next season. Chelsea last lifted the prestigious trophy in 2021, after defeating Manchester City 1-0 in Lisbon.
That winning goal was scored by Kai Havertz. Although the German has since moved on, he joined Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen that same season for €80 million (R1.6 million), making him the fifth most expensive signing in the club’s history.
