After Lorch, Wydad 'Close' To Signing Another Southern African

After Lorch, Wydad 'Close' To Signing Another Southern African

Wydad Athletic Club are reportedly pushing to sign a former Kaizer Chiefs target.

Following the acquisition of Thembinkosi Lorch, Wydad Athletic Club are reportedly looking to sign yet another Southern African star before the close of the transfer window.

Last week, the record Moroccan champions finally put an end to the drawn-out transfer saga involving the Bloemfontein-born attacker as they secured his services on a permanent deal, following his initial loan move midway through the 2024/25 campaign.

Last season, the Red Castle also dipped into the COSAFA region by signing Cassius Mailula on loan, and it now appears they are set to return to Southern Africa to bolster their squad. According to AfricaFoot, the three-time CAF Champions League winners are working on a deal for Botswana international Tumisang Orebonye.

While it was suggested earlier this week that the Casablanca giants had abandoned their pursuit of the 40-cap striker, fresh reports indicate that Wydad have reignited their interest and made significant progress in negotiations.

The Moroccan heavyweights are believed to be targeting Orebonye as a replacement for Samuel Obeng, who is expected to depart. With just hours remaining in the transfer window, Wydad are now attempting to finalise a two-year deal for the Zebras forward.

Should the deal materialise, it would mark Orebonye’s second stint in Morocco, having previously featured for AS FAR Rabat. However, the completion of the transfer reportedly hinges on whether Wydad can submit the necessary paperwork to the Royal Moroccan Football Federation before the deadline
