Last season, the emerging North African powerhouse ended the 2024/25 campaign on a high, defeating Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League final to become continental kings for the first time in their history at the expense of Miguel Cardoso’s side.
That triumph, however, did little to curtail speculation over Jurcic’s future, as rumours about his possible exit began circulating soon after the victory. Rulani Mokwena was even touted as a potential replacement for the Croat during the off-season, but the Ljubuski native ultimately decided to stay in the Egyptian capital.
Now, Jurcic’s days with the Sky Blues could be numbered following a poor start to the new league campaign. From their opening four Egyptian Premier League fixtures, the reigning African champions have managed just one win. According to One3 News, this run of form has caused serious concern within the club’s hierarchy, to the extent that they are now preparing to part ways with the 55-year-old.
The same report claims that the board plans to make an official decision after their upcoming clash with Al Ahly, regardless of the result. The man they want to bring in to replace Jurcic is none other than Marcel Koller, who was in charge of the Red Devils until earlier this year.

Pyramids are believed to view the two-time CAF Champions League-winning coach as their top candidate, though it remains to be seen how receptive the Swiss tactician would be to joining the direct rivals of a club where he enjoyed considerable success.
