According to Al Ahly News, the Spaniard is under intense pressure heading into the club’s next league clash against reigning African champions Pyramids FC. Since the Vigo-born tactician took charge of the Club of the Century, victories have been hard to come by.
The 49-year-old endured a disappointing FIFA Club World Cup campaign, failing to register a single win after recording two draws and a defeat. That inability to secure victories now seems to have carried into domestic football, with Al Ahly managing just one win from their opening three league fixtures.
Earlier this week, the Red Devils were held to a 0-0 draw by El Mahalla, a result that has reportedly heightened concerns within the club’s hierarchy. Following their upcoming clash with Pyramids, chairman Mahmoud El Khatib is said to be planning a meeting with Riveiro to decide whether he should remain in charge — a decision believed to hinge on the outcome of the fixture.
The former Orlando Pirates boss has faced criticism over several of his technical calls since taking the reins. Questions have been raised over his reluctance to quickly reintegrate stars such as Aliou Dieng and Achraf Bencharki into the starting XI, while the decision to hold training sessions in extreme heat has also been flagged as a concern.

While various issues have been cited, it is understood that the Cairo Derby showdown against Pyramids will be decisive in determining whether Riveiro’s tenure at the Cairo International Stadium continues or comes to an abrupt end.
