Just a few months after leaving record CAF Champions League winners Al Ahly for Qatar SC, the 31-year-old could now be on his way back to the Egyptian capital—this time to join Ahly’s arch-rivals, Zamalek.
The White Knights are seemingly set to lose their talisman, Ahmed Sayed—otherwise known as Zizo—to the Red Devils at the end of the season on a free transfer. In an effort to offset that loss, the five-time African champions believe Tau possesses the necessary attacking qualities and experience to help elevate the club.
The Bafana Bafana international was named the 2023 CAF Interclub Player of the Year during his time in Egypt, and Zamalek are hoping he can replicate that form should they successfully acquire him from the Middle Eastern outfit.
According to Arabian outlet Mwlana, however, while they are hopeful of signing the South African, he has made high salary demands. It is believed that the Witbank native is requesting $1.4 million (R25.5 million) annually if he is to return to the city he once called home.

The same report claims that Tau is settling in well in Qatar and is not pushing for a return to Egypt, but would seriously consider the move if Zamalek meet his financial expectations.
