The South African tactician will formally depart the Moroccan giants at the end of the 2024/25 season. The parting of ways comes after unsatisfactory results in the Botola Pro Inwi and the Moroccan Throne Cup, with the club having since confirmed that the Johannesburg native will leave once the campaign concludes.
With the global spectacle that is the Club World Cup on the horizon, the North African giants must now decide who will lead them during the tournament in the United States of America. In Mokwena’s recent absence from the Wydad touchline, Mohamed Amine Benhachem has taken charge of the three-time African champions.
The 49-year-old oversaw the club’s recent 2-1 win over AS FAR Rabat this past weekend, keeping their faint CAF Champions League qualification hopes alive. According to Kooora, it seems that Casablanca will retain his services for the immediate future and for the Club World Cup.
Benhachem was initially appointed as Wydad’s sporting director while Mokwena was at the helm. However, following the former Mamelodi Sundowns head coach’s fallout with Wydad, Benhachem is now expected to lead the record Moroccan champions for the foreseeable future.

While the Club World Cup will be a major focus for the club, Wydad’s immediate ambition is to return to the Champions League. After their recent win, they now trail second-placed FAR Rabat by three points. With two matches remaining in the top flight, the Moroccan boss will be hoping their domestic rivals drop more points as Wydad aim to overtake them.
