A former Wydad Athletic Club boss has reportedly overtaken the likes of Rulani Mokwena in the race for the Zamalek head coaching position.

One of the highest-profile coaching positions on the African continent is yet to be filled for the 2025/26 season.
The White Knights currently have Ayman El Ramadi at the helm. He has led the North African outfit for their final four league matches of the season and will also be in the dugout when they take on newly crowned African champions Pyramids FC in the Egyptian Cup final. However, he is only in charge on an interim basis and will leave once the campaign concludes.
Since his short-term appointment became official, rumours have been rampant about who will succeed Jose Peseiro as the club’s next permanent manager.
South African head coaches Mokwena and Pitso Mosimane have both been touted as possible candidates to lead the five-time CAF Champions League winners, but according to Aabbir, a Moroccan head coach in the form of Adil Ramzi is now the frontrunner to lead the Egyptian giants.
The Marrakesh native was previously in charge of Wydad during the first half of the 2023/24 campaign but was fired in December 2023.

Since then, he has returned to the Netherlands, where he was coaching the U18 side, but according to Transfermarkt, his contract with the Royal Dutch Football Association expires at the end of this month, and it would seem that Zamalek are keen to take advantage of that by acquiring his services.
