The Spanish tactician is now the head coach of the Red Devils, following the club's recent announcement of his arrival. The Vigo native has already started putting the players through their paces as they prepare for the FIFA Club World Cup. However, the 47-year-old will have known about the players’ qualities from his time in charge of the Buccaneers.
The Sea Robbers faced the Club of the Century twice during the recently concluded CAF Champions League campaign — drawing first in Orlando before travelling to Cairo to claim a famous victory over his now-employers.
Ahead of their trip to the United States of America, Riveiro gave an interview in which he stated that he was well aware of the players’ qualities prior to signing for the club and is extremely impressed with what they have to offer.
“Without mentioning names, we have players I knew before I signed with Al Ahly, and we prepared an analysis for them. There are distinguished players I knew when I joined Al Ahly, and some need more work to correct mistakes,” the three-time MTN 8 winner said, as per Kora Plus.
“Al-Ahly has a wealth of talent in all goalkeeping positions. We have a distinguished squad and there will be strong competition because we have a lot of matches to play.”

“I like the players to be on the same level and competitively, because we participate in many tournaments, and I don't like the player to be guaranteed a spot. I will face a difficulty in deciding who participates, and the big teams must have a number of distinguished players, and we will choose the players according to the nature of the competition.”
