Brazil Star Lauds Fortune's Impact Ahead Of LALIGA Push

A Real Oviedo star has lauded Quinton Fortune's impact on the team.

A Brazilian star has spoken glowingly about Quinton Fortune’s impact on the team since his arrival this season, as the former Bafana Bafana star looks to help his new side gain promotion to LALIGA.

The ex-South African international enjoyed an illustrious playing career, most notably with Manchester United, where he won three Premier League titles and an FA Cup. He has since swapped football boots for cones and a whistle, now working as a coach in Europe.

Fortune began his coaching career in the Cardiff City youth system before joining Manchester United’s youth ranks. After a year at Old Trafford, he linked up with Serbian tactician Veljko Paunovic as his assistant at Reading in 2021. Since then, the duo have continued working together across various clubs, including Reading and Deportivo Guadalajara.

Now, the coaching pair are in northern Spain, leading a project at Real Oviedo, who are on the brink of securing promotion to LaLiga — if they can navigate the LaLiga 2 promotion play-offs successfully.

Oviedo’s semi-final tie is against Almeria this weekend, and speaking ahead of the first leg, star striker Alemao described Fortune’s big personality as a key factor in the team’s strong finish to the season.

“Coach Fortune is a very charismatic guy, smiling all the time. He’s always raising the atmosphere among the players and you can see that in the training sessions. He’s always trying to help us think about the game,” the Brazilian attacker told Soccer Laduma.

“He was an amazing player having played in Manchester, and many big teams afterwards, so obviously as a person and a professional he brings a lot to the team every day with his experience.

“He’s always with us after the games, showing us videos, talking with the players, critiquing our performances, so he helps us a lot. He, along with the rest of the technical staff, bring a lot to the team since they arrived. We haven’t lost since they have arrived, so we’re having a good streak at the moment. Hopefully we can keep doing that during the play-offs.”
