Castillo's Replacement? Big Boots To Fill At Chiefs

GARDEREN, NETHERLANDS - JULY 11: Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi looks on during the Pre-Season Friendly match between FC Utrecht and Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs have moved to secure the services of one of their most promising talents, offering a substantial contract to a midfielder who caught the eye during the team's recent pre-season camp in the Netherlands.

Sources close to Naturena have indicated that the club has identified the youngster as a potential first-team player for the upcoming season and beyond.

The insiders added that Amakhosi have offered 20-year-old Thulani Mabaso a three-year deal running from July 2025 to June 2028, with an additional one-year option that could extend his stay until 2029.

"He is the one who could feature more this season amongst those recently promoted and they are believed to have offered him a three-year contract with a one-year option. He has done very well in the pre-season and all the involved parties are happy with what's going on regarding his contract," the insider told Soccer Laduma.

A second source stated that Mabaso is being viewed as a direct replacement for Venezuelan international Edson Castillo, who recently departed the club.

"They believe he can replace Castillo. The way he plays and the way he handles himself, he is ready for the senior team and can do a great job. That's why the club, together with the technical team, has agreed to offer him a long-term contract," the second insider told the Siya crew.

The defensive midfielder has been a consistent performer for Chiefs' reserve side in the DDC competition. His development has been steady, earning him training opportunities with the first team last season. His hard work has culminated in his inclusion in the senior squad that traveled to the Netherlands.

Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for comment regarding the contract offer but received no official response at the time of publishing.
