The Brazilians, currently coached by Miguel Cardoso, remain firmly in second place behind Egyptian giants Al Ahly, with a total of 62 points. Their consistent dominance both domestically and on the continent, including regular deep runs in the CAF Champions League, has solidified their place among Africa’s elite.
Orlando Pirates come in at 15th with 30 points, reflecting their recent revival in CAF inter-club competitions. Their appearances in the CAF Confederation Cup final in 2022 and steady performances in the CAF Champions League have kept them within striking distance of the top tier.
Another impressive inclusion is Stellenbosch FC, ranked 21st with 14 points. The Cape Winelands outfit is one of the fastest-rising clubs in South African football and their inclusion highlights the strides they’ve made on and off the pitch.
Meanwhile, Marumo Gallants are ranked 31st, with nine points, a testament to their strong Confederation Cup showings in recent seasons, despite their current domestic challenges.
Surprisingly, Kaizer Chiefs are down in 50th place with just five points, having not competed in CAF tournaments since reaching the Champions League final in 2021. Their return to continental football this season via the CAF Confederation Cup will be crucial to restoring their position among Africa’s best.
Elsewhere, Sekhukhune United (51st), AmaZulu FC (55th), and SuperSport United (now operating as Siwelele FC) in 63rd, round off South Africa’s representation in the top 75 rankings.
CAF notes that tie-breakers are decided by the most recent seasons, rewarding consistent participation and results. As such, South African clubs outside of the top 20 will look to climb the ladder with solid performances in this year’s continental campaigns.
