Earlier this week, the Red Devils finally brought an end to the long-running transfer saga involving the French-born attacker, with Mbeumo putting pen to paper on a five-year deal at Old Trafford.
The 25-year-old was in prolific form for Brentford last season, scoring 20 goals and providing nine assists in all competitions. Alongside fellow African star Yoane Wissa, Mbeumo played a crucial role in helping the London-based side achieve the club’s second-best finish in the Premier League, ending the season in 10th place.
However, his time at the Gtech Community Stadium has now come to a close, with the record English champions shelling out €75 million (R1.5 billion) for his services—making him the third most expensive African player of all time. He will now reunite with international teammate Andre Onana at the Theatre of Dreams.
Unlike his compatriot Mbeumo, the 29-year-old goalkeeper joined United last year from Italian giants Inter Milan. Onana had previously featured for both Ajax Amsterdam and the Nerazzurri before the Premier League side paid €50.2 million (R1 billion) to secure his signature. That fee makes the Nkol Ngok-born shot-stopper the 10th most expensive African player ever.
At the top end of the list is another West African, this time from Ivory Coast—Nicolas Pepe.

In 2019, the Ivorian winger was coming off a sensational season with Lille, where he tallied 22 goals and 11 assists in Ligue 1. Those performances convinced Arsenal to spend a then-club record €80 million (R1.6 billion) on his transfer, making him the most expensive African player in history at the time.
