Interest in Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro is intensifying from Saudi Arabia, with sources confirming that several clubs, including Al Wehda, are closely monitoring the Spaniard’s situation ahead of the off-season.
Riveiro has quickly established himself as one of the most successful coaches in South African football since arriving in 2022.

He’s guided the Buccaneers to three consecutive MTN8 titles and is now on the verge of a historic third Nedbank Cup final win in a row – should Pirates beat rivals Kaizer Chiefs this Saturday at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.
Speaking to the Siya crew, a source close to the situation confirmed, “There are clubs in Saudi Arabia showing interest. Al Wehda is definitely one of them, and there’s been contact through intermediaries. It’s not just them – others in the region are also watching him.”
The 47-year-old tactician’s growing reputation is not only drawing attention from Saudi Arabia.
Egyptian giants Zamalek FC – reportedly willing to pay over R1.5 million per month for the mentor – are also in the picture.
North African heavyweights Al Ahly and Esperance Sportive de Tunis are understood to have expressed interest, while reports from earlier this year linked Riveiro to coaching roles in Sweden and Finland.
Pirates’ deep run in the CAF Champions League this season, where they narrowly missed out on a place in the final, has only strengthened Riveiro’s profile on the continent.

Despite the speculation, Riveiro remains focused on the task at hand – potentially closing out the season with more silverware and leading Pirates to another cup triumph over their fierce Soweto rivals.
Pirates confirmed last month that Riveiro will step down at the end of the current campaign after deciding not to renew his contract.
