Chiefs Striker To Continue Scoring Streak V Downs?

Chiefs Striker To Continue Scoring Streak V Downs?

Ashley Du Preez of Kaizer Chiefs

Apart from Kaizer Chiefs new signings, Mamelodi Sundowns would be wary of one player from Amakhosi who has developed a knack of scoring against them over the years.

Chiefs' perfect start to the Betway Premiership will be on the line when they host reigning champions Sundowns next Wednesday at FNB Stadium.

Even though the Brazilians would be wary of a confident Amakhosi side, who are yet to fully integrate new signings, with Thabiso Monyane the only new recruit who has been able to play.

Masandawana would have to pay special attention to Chiefs striker Ashley Du Preez, who has found the back of the net against them on a regular basis.

Du Preez, even though he was not a regular under head coach Nasreddine Nabi, scored a crucial winner in a 2-1 victory against Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals.

The speedy forward netted in the last minute to take the Glamour Boys to the final, after Wandile Duba had cancelled out am opener by Teboho Mokoena.

In the 2023/24 season, the former Stellenbosch striker was also on target when Chiefs lost 2-1 to Sundowns in the MTN8 semi-final second-leg, although Amakhosi bowed out 3-2 on aggregate.

In the same campaign, the 28-year-old was on the scoresheet when the Soweto giants lost 2-1 to Masandawana in the Betway Premiership.

Du Preez's knack of scoring against Sundowns was a continuation of the similar damage he did while he was still at Stellies, where he was on target against 'Kabo Yellow' for two consecutive seasons.

The explosive forward scored a brace for the Maroons when they thrashed the Brazilians 3-0 in the league in the 2021/22 campaign, as he had followed up after he was also on the scoresheet when the Cape Winelands outfit lost 3-2 against the same opposition a season prior in the Nedbank Cup round of 16 in extra-time.
