Hotto’s Future: What Pirates Want Amid Al Ahly Talk

Hotto’s Future: What Pirates Want Amid Al Ahly Talk

There is an update on Deon Hotto’s future with Orlando Pirates amid reported foreign interest, including links to Al Ahly and former coach Jose Riveiro.

According to well-placed sources, Pirates remain intent on securing the long-term services of the Namibian international, as the club continues its efforts to fend off interest from abroad and reward the versatile player for his consistent contributions since joining the Soweto giants.

Hotto, who has been a mainstay in the Pirates squad since arriving from Bidvest Wits in 2020, has earned praise for his work rate, versatility, and leadership qualities.

His current contract is nearing its final stretch, and sources close to the club confirm that a renewal offer has already been tabled.

According to a source within the club, Hotto’s professionalism and impact on and off the field have made him a key figure in the squad.

He is seen as a vital senior presence in the dressing room – one the club is keen to retain, especially as the Buccaneers look to build a balanced blend of youth and experience for upcoming campaigns.

“The club is keen to renew his contract. Hotto has done very well since joining the club and is seen as a valuable member of the team. His professionalism is highly regarded, and he’s one of the senior players the club wants to keep around to help guide the younger ones,” said a source.

While the 34-year-old has reportedly attracted interest from clubs in the Middle East and North Africa, including Al Ahly where his former Pirates coach Jose Riveiro now plies his trade, insiders believe a move north is unlikely.

Another source close to the situation stated that although Riveiro is an admirer of Hotto, decisions at a club like Al Ahly go through board-level scrutiny.

With Hotto now in his thirties, age could be a limiting factor in any potential transfer to the Egyptian powerhouse.

Pirates, however, remain focused on securing the veteran’s future in the PSL. Talks are believed to be at an advanced stage, with the club eager to conclude the matter before the start of pre-season.
