This past weekend, Krunoslav Jurcic added to his historic legacy at the Egyptian giants by winning the institution’s second trophy ever — and it was a major one in the form of the CAF Champions League.
The Croatian tactician defeated Mamelodi Sundowns to claim continental silverware, but despite making history, he admitted after the game that there could be a possibility he might leave the club if he and the board do not share a vision for the future.
Rumours have subsequently emerged suggesting he is likely to depart. With his exit from the Egyptian capital seemingly imminent, The Egyptian Telegraph reports that this season’s Egyptian Premier League runners-up are now on the hunt for a new coach and have identified Mokwena as Jurcic’s successor.
The 38-year-old is currently unemployed after leaving Wydad Athletic Club at the end of the season, but his time in Casablanca has seemingly not tainted his reputation. Pyramids FC are now understood to be in active discussions with the South African boss regarding an appointment for the 2025/26 campaign — and potentially beyond.
The same report claims that the Pyramids hierarchy are impressed by the former Orlando Pirates head coach’s resume, despite his relative youth. They are admirers of his tactical discipline and attacking style of play, and feel it resonates with the direction in which they want to take the club.

It remains to be seen whether Jurcic ultimately leaves, but should he depart, Mokwena appears the likeliest successor.
