R100m Chiefs Shopping Spree: N African Winger On The Radar

R100m Chiefs Shopping Spree: N African Winger On The Radar

Kaizer Chiefs are expanding their search for attacking reinforcements, with a foreign talent based in North Africa believed to be on their transfer wishlist.

The club's increased transfer budget appears to be empowering a more ambitious approach to recruitment, with multiple targets being assessed across the continent.

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, Amakhosi have looked at wingers like AmaZulu FC winger Tshepang Moremi but they are now spreading their net wider and further.

Now, insiders have indicated that the club has reignited their interest in Nigerian winger Kingsley Michael who they had monitored before.

"He is currently playing in Tunisia and there are scouts who have been monitoring him there and he has been doing very well. That's why he is back on Chiefs' radar. They haven't finalised the shopping list for next season as they are still looking at the players which they can afford and get. Kingsley Michael is one of those they are considering," the source told Soccer Laduma.

Notably, it's also easier for Nabi to assess Michael, considering that the player is participating in the Chiefs coach's home country, where he has a network of contacts and a high ability to understand the league's level.

A second insider stated that the club raised their budget from apparently around R60 million to R100m because they will fight to get all their targets during this off-season.

"You know the budget went up? Yes, it's because they want to get almost all their targets this season and to do that they are willing to pay this time around. So you know Kingsley is playing in Tunisia and they will need good money to bring him to Naturena and they are believed to be working on doing just that," the second insider observed.

The 25-year-old Nigerian is a well-traveled player having played for Cremonese in Italy's Series B as well as Bologna in Serie A. He also spent some time in Austria where he featured for Leoben as well as SV Reid in Austria. He is currently on the books of Tunisian side US Monastir.

Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for comment on the situation but there was no response at the time of preparing this story.

This renewed interest in Michael signals Chiefs' determination to strengthen their wide attacking options ahead of what promises to be a crucial 2025/26 campaign. The significant budget increase demonstrates the Soweto giants' commitment to rebuilding after several disappointing seasons in the league.

With his European and North African experience, Michael could bring a different dimension to Chiefs' attack, potentially offering the creativity and penetration they've sometimes lacked. As the transfer window approaches, Amakhosi supporters will be watching closely to see if this foreign target finally makes the move to Naturena, or if the club's wide-ranging talent search leads them in another direction entirely.
