The story
Orlando Pirates full-back Deano van Rooyen and IFK Värnamo midfielder Luke le Roux have celebrated their shared hometown of Idas Valley after being called up to the national team.
They will be part of the Bafana squad facing Tanzania and Mozambique on Friday, 6 June and Tuesday, 10 June, respectively.
Coach Hugo Broos included ten players who are receiving their first call-ups, including van Rooyen.
The 28-year-old defender has had a significant impact at the Buccaneers during the 2024/25 season since joining from Stellenbosch FC last August.
Van Rooyen made 20 appearances, with 18 starts and two as a substitute, establishing himself as a regular starter under coach Jose Riveiro.
Le Roux has been a consistent performer for Värnamo, although the team is currently at the bottom of the Allsvenskan table.
The former SuperSport United midfielder, who's linked with a move to Hammarby, has played in all 12 of his club's league matches this season, along with four additional appearances in the Swedish Cup.
Le Roux took to IG to post a snap of himself alongside van Rooyen, acknowledging their shared background in Idas Valley, Stellenbosch.
Van Rooyen reshared the snap on his IG story, with the Idas Valley's "7600" postal code being displayed at the bottom of the post.
