The South African tactician is making history by becoming the first coach from his country to manage in Algeria.

This past weekend, the 39-year-old was officially unveiled as the club’s new head coach following the departure of Khaled Ben Yahia. With the Johannesburg native now at the helm, El Mouloudia will be hoping to make significant strides on the continental front.

There were reportedly doubts surrounding his appointment due to how things ended during his brief spell with Wydad Athletic Club last season. However, it’s understood that his extensive experience in the CAF Champions League—most notably with Mamelodi Sundowns—overshadowed any concerns.

Earlier this week, Mokwena arrived in Algiers to a warm reception, with widespread media attention and excitement from the fans. Not only is he the first South African to manage in the Ligue Professionnelle 1, but he is also set to become the youngest head coach in the Algerian top flight.

Upon his arrival, Mokwena expressed his enthusiasm about joining the reigning Algerian champions and embracing a new chapter in his career.
