The 38-year-old will now take his talents to Algeria with the reigning Ligue Professionelle 1 champions, who parted ways with coach Khaled Ben Yahia.
Mokwena's previous managerial stint at Moroccan giants Wydad AC ended before his first season was over, but the Johannesburg-native admitted he reflected on his time with the White Castle before making the move to The Mouloudia.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns boss said he was intrigued by the MC Alger fans, the club's ambitions and CAF Champions League aspirations as key factors for his choice.
Mokwena will have a team of winners and a wealth of talent at his disposal, as many of the club's stars are members of the team who won the league last season.
Soufiane Bayazid led the team's goalscoring exploits with 10 goals in all competitions, while defender Mohamed Reda Halaimia made the most appearances last season with 42.
The Doyen is captained by Algerian defender Ayoub Abdellaoui, who was also a member of the team's league victory in 2023/24.
