With Fagrie Lakay recently completing a permanent switch from CAF Champions League winners Pyramids FC to Ceramica Cleopatra, the transfer has been hailed as one of the standout moves of the current window in Egypt.

Earlier this month, the Bafana Bafana forward finalised his permanent move to the Egyptian side, having spent the entire 2024/25 campaign on loan at the Gold and Blood. While his parent club went on to make history by defeating Mamelodi Sundowns to be crowned African champions, the Capetonian enjoyed a stellar season of his own at Cleopatra.
Lakay made 28 appearances for the club last season, scoring five goals and providing seven assists. It was this form, according to WinWin, that led head coach Ali Maher to urge the club’s hierarchy to secure the attacker on a full-time basis.
The same publication has now ranked his transfer among the six best deals completed so far in the Egyptian Premier League during the current window.
An excerpt from the article read:
“The South African international player shone with Ceramica Cleopatra at all levels, between scoring and creating. Although he played as a striker, he excelled in serving his teammates by creating opportunities, as he was the second most active player in the Egyptian League last season in creating chances from open play (39). He also scored and assisted 9 goals for the team in the league.”

If the 27-year-old can maintain his form, a return to the national team may be on the cards. Lakay was last called up to Bafana Bafana by Hugo Broos in 2022.
