Former Orlando Pirates coach Roger De Sa has given his backing to the club’s newly-appointed head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, saying the Moroccan mentor has the right pedigree to thrive at the Soweto giants.
Speaking exclusively to the Siya crew, De Sa shared his thoughts on the Buccaneers’ latest coaching change, with Spanish tactician Jose Riveiro departing at the end of his three-year contract.

“Look, I don’t think they parted ways,” De Sa explained. “I think Jose's contract was up after three years, and it’s very unlikely that Pirates renew a contract. It’s always just a period… I remember Ruud Krol winning the double or the treble or whatever, and he still didn’t stay."
But with Ouaddou now at the helm, De Sa is optimistic about what lies ahead.

“I think, you know, the new coach will probably do a good job. I thought he did a fantastic job at the club that he came to (Marumo Gallants), and I just hope he does the same. He’s got some good African experience, and I think that will help,” added De Sa.
Ouaddou, who had a brief but impactful spell with Gallants last season, has had a full pre-season with Bucs and is ready to guide the team for his first official match tomorrow, against Polokwane City in the MTN8.
