Al Ahly played out to a goalless draw against Inter Miami in the tournament's opening game, while Palmeiras achieved the same result against FC Porto meaning it is all to play for in Group A.

A win for Al Ahly would put them in a strong position to qualify for the round of 16 and Riveiro is aware of the task that lies ahead.

Speaking ahead of the game on 19 June, Riveiro was anticipating a difficult challenge against a Palmeiras team he reportedly called 'one of the best in the tournament', according to WinWin.

"We need to fight as hard as possible to get a good result against Palmeiras. I think they are one of the best teams in the tournament in terms of stability and current situation," Riveiro said.

He added: "I think Palmeiras and their coach, Abel Ferreira, have played together for 300 or more matches. They're a team that knows how to handle different situations because of the harmony between them. They can adapt very quickly. We saw that against Porto. They played a very impressive tactical match."

The Spaniard was full of praise for the Green and White and claimed they have strength throughout the pitch.

"Palmeiras is a team that we see a lot of determination in," the 49-year-old said. "They have a very aggressive defense, are capable of applying a lot of pressure, and are very brave. They are a very fast team with an amazing midfield. They have great midfielders and have performed excellently in recent tournaments."
