Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Hussein Mohammed has revealed the one condition under which the federation would allow Benni McCarthy to leave his role as Kenya coach.

McCarthy signed a two-year deal to become Harambee Stars boss in March 2025, but has continually been linked with a move to Orlando Pirates to replace Jose Riveiro.
According to Pulse Sports Kenya, Mohammed addressed McCarthy's contract with the national team, including payment and contract length, amid the links to the Buccaneers.
Reports from Kenya claimed that the coach earns Ksh8 million (R1.1 million) per month with the Harambee Stars, and Mohammed claimed this figure was not true, but that it was up to the South African to reveal the true amount.
"Benni McCarthy’s term is up to 2027, immediately after AFCON. He is employed like any other employee and his terms of payment are personal to him. If we get his consent, we can discuss the terms of his pay, it should not be a big issue," Mohammed said.
He added: "I would rather it came from him so that he clarifies, because it is a private matter. It is not the figures that have been thrown around, and it would be important that it comes from him so that he feels comfortable with that particular agenda."
The FKF boss also stated there is a clause in place should either party decide to part ways.

"We have agreed within the contract that we have to give each other notice if we want him to leave and if he wants also to leave the terms are very clear, we have to give a period of time. It is a short period, maybe two to three months and just say we want to part ways and we have a very clear exit plan,” he concluded.
