Mohamed Salah has revealed where he almost went to when he negotiating his Liverpool FC extension.

Mohamed Salah has revealed which league he almost joined, had he not extended his contract with Liverpool FC.

This past weekend, the Egyptian attacker held the Premier League trophy aloft for the second time in his career.

It comes in a campaign where the attacker claimed the Golden Boot for the fourth time in the English top flight, scooped the Playmaker of the Season award, and won the Player of the Season accolade — becoming the first Premier League star to ever accomplish such a feat.

However, there was a very real possibility that the Egypt national team captain would have been bidding farewell to Anfield at the end of the 2024/25 season. Heading into the campaign, the 32-year-old had just 12 months remaining on his existing contract, while rumours intensified that he was bound for the Saudi Pro League.

Al Ittihad are believed to have tried to sign him in the past, but this time it looked as though a move to the oil-rich kingdom was bound to happen. Ultimately, last month, the Merseyside icon decided to sign a new two-year extension with the club — but Salah has now revealed that a move to the Saudi Pro League was a very real possibility.

"It was a good opportunity to me, if I hadn't renewed with Liverpool it would have happened. My relations with SPL officials are very good, we talked a lot, and the negotiations were serious,” the prolific attacker told OnTime Sports.

"The negotiations were long, I know the club's policy [in negotiations], we reached a middle ground that made us all happy. Part of the pressure on the club came from the fans, I know from the start that they wanted me to continue, and they played their role in all of this."
