Simba and RS Berkane played out a 1-1 draw in the second leg of the final as the Tanzanian side was unable to overturn the 2-0 first-leg loss.
Simba was unable to capitalise on their early goal and the task was made tougher after Yusuph Kagoma was sent off for a second yellow card early in the second half.
The Moroccan side equalised in injury time to eliminate all hopes of a Simba comeback but head coach Fadlu Davids admitted he was proud of his side's efforts to overcome adversity, according to Pan-Africa Football.
"I am extremely proud of my players," the former Maritzburg United coach said.
He added: "The main theme of the week, and the main theme of both legs on the final is overcoming adversity, and this adversity is what we faced in the lead-up to the game, in training sessions, and what happened in the pitch in the entire 90 minutes, and in Berkane will definitely help the players."
The Capetonian said the result would help his team face up to future challenges.
"It will help them to adapt to the adversity," Davids said.
"The players fantastically started the game, going 1-0 up and could have gone 2-0 up then the adversity of the swinging of the match in a certain direction, but we stood tall, we stood strong, even though in the last minutes they kept giving unnecessary free-kicks in the direction of Berkane but we stood strong, we defended well, and we were strong.”
The ex-Orlando Pirates coach admitted he was proud of his players for facing up to the Berkane challenge with 10 men.
"Again in the second half, the adversity of the unexpected red card, but still our players stood strong, our players didn’t back down, our players stood with 10 men and went toe-to-toe with Berkane," Davids added.
