Amakhosi kicked off their pre-season campaign against the Dutch second-tier outfit, taking the lead through a stunning long-range strike by Reeve Frosler. However, the Keuken Kampioen Divisie side mounted a comeback in the second half to secure the win.
It’s the second pre-season under the guidance of head coach Nasreddine Nabi, and while Chiefs appeared to be executing his tactical ideas effectively in the opening half, they were ultimately undone after the break.
The victory was a notable one for new Vitesse boss Rudiger Rehm, who only took charge of the Arnhem-based club earlier this month. Despite the result, the 46-year-old was full of praise for Chiefs and the challenge they presented.
“In the first half, we were perhaps still a little too passive, we had some trouble applying good pressure, and the distances were sometimes too large, but after the break, things improved,” Rehm told Omroep Gelderland in a post-match interview.
“The second half was good, and the victory was therefore deserved. We showed good spirit and were strong in the duels.
“[Chiefs] are a big team, and we want to compete with this kind of opponent and beat them,” he concluded.
