A final decision has been reached following Bafana Bafana prospect Simon van Duivenbooden's trial period with AmaZulu, the Siya crew understands.

Over the past two weeks, the Netherlands-born striker has been part of Usuthu’s pre-season camp. The 23-year-old left Dutch second division side Vitesse at the end of the season and travelled to South Africa to undergo pre-season testing with the Durban-based club, who were extremely keen to sign him ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Van Duivenbooden has previously been named in Hugo Broos’ preliminary Bafana Bafana squad. He was selected ahead of South Africa’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Uganda and South Sudan last year, although he didn’t make the final cut.
With the aim of getting closer to the Belgian tactician, the attacker is contemplating a return to his paternal homeland in South Africa. However, while he remains eager to play in the Betway Premiership, it will not be with the KwaZulu-Natal outfit.
Soccer Laduma has it on good authority that both the AmaZulu technical team and players were impressed by the former Netherlands youth international’s technical ability. Nonetheless, it appears that a move will not take place with sources claiming that the striker has opted against joining Arthur Zwane’s side.

Other South African topflight clubs are believed to be interested in the player’s services, and more could now emerge with knowledge of his availability — particularly as he would not take up a foreign quota spot. Van Duivenbooden is currently a free agent and therefore not bound by the transfer window, but it remains to be seen which club will ultimately secure his signature.
