South African coach Pitso Mosimane is reportedly a frontrunner to take over at a major African side.

The South African tactician has been out of management since the beginning of 2025, when a wage dispute led to his departure from Iranian giants Esteghlal FC. With the off-season now in full swing, clubs have begun preparing for the 2025/26 campaign — not only by recruiting players but also by finalising their technical teams.
One such club looking to appoint a new head coach is North African powerhouse Zamalek. The White Knights ended last season under interim boss Ayman El-Ramady and are now on the lookout for a permanent successor. Among the names being considered as foreign candidates, Mosimane is reportedly at the top of the list.
The 60-year-old previously enjoyed immense success with Zamalek’s fierce rivals Al Ahly, where, during a two-year stint, he won numerous trophies — including two CAF Champions League titles.
Zamalek have been linked with the former Bafana Bafana head coach during previous transfer windows, but according to Kooora, he is now the favourite among foreign candidates to take over.
The same report mentions that former Egypt Olympic team coach Rogerio Micale is also in contention for the role, having been praised for both his tactical work and his ability to nurture young talent.

It is also understood that a local contender is in the running: former Zamalek assistant Tarek Mostafa.
