According to the Daily Record, Andries Ulderink has accepted an assistant manager role with German outfit Bayer Leverkusen.
The Dutchman was tipped to become the Citizens’ new head coach when Muhsin Ertugral was poised to become the club’s technical director at the end of the season. However, following a short stint in the Mother City, he will now be leaving for the Bundesliga to work alongside Erik ten Hag.
The 55-year-old was spotted at Cape Town City’s training facilities ahead of their Premier Soccer League promotion/relegation playoff campaign. It was initially suggested that he would oversee the clashes against Casric Stars and Orbit College, but it is now believed he has already said his goodbyes and is on his way to the BayArena.
The Zwolle native has spent time at some of Europe’s most prestigious clubs in recent years, having served as assistant coach at the likes of FC Twente, Royal Antwerp, and Glasgow Rangers. In the final stretch of the 2024/25 campaign, Ulderink took on his first head coaching role in Europe, being appointed interim manager of the aforementioned Belgian giants.
