European Interest Prompts Chiefs Contract Action

DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA - JULY 26: Nkosingiphile Ngcobo of Kaizer Chiefs and Patrick Asiedu of Asante Kotoko during the Toyota Cup match between Kaizer Chiefs and Asante Kotoko

With European interest emerging in one of their midfield talents, Kaizer Chiefs have moved swiftly to strengthen their position by moving to secure the player's future at Naturena.

The Glamour Boys have taken decisive action to protect both their footballing and financial interests amid growing attention from overseas clubs in a player developed through their own ranks.

Siya sources close to the situation have indicated that Chiefs are set to exercise their one-year option on midfielder Nkosingiphile Ngcobo's contract, extending his stay at the club until June 2027. This comes after Soccer Laduma previously reported that a Dutch club had shown interest and made inquiries about the 25-year-old playmaker.

Sources close to the club added that the decision reflects a change in the technical team's approach to Ngcobo compared to last season.

"Last year it was not clear whether he was going to stay or not but this season it's believed that things have changed and the club is willing to keep him because the technical team wants him to be part of the squad which will play an important part this season. And now it's believed management has already exercised his one-year option on his contract so that they keep him until June 2027," the insider told Soccer Laduma.

A second source stated that the European interest was a key factor in Chiefs' decision to act promptly on the contract situation.

"The club is aware that if they don't exercise his option as soon as possible then they could lose him for free or at least close to nothing because his contract was coming to an end in June 2026. So with the exercising of the one-year option it gives the club the chance to negotiate a better price if the move was to happen," the second insider revealed.

Since being promoted from Chiefs' development academy to the senior team, Ngcobo has accumulated over a century of appearances across all competitions while finding the net on occasions. His technical ability and vision have made him a valuable asset in Amakhosi's midfield rotation.

The potential extension secures the services of a player who represents the successful pathway from Chiefs' youth system to first-team football, something the club has been keen to emphasize in recent seasons.

Soccer Laduma contacted Kaizer Chiefs for comment, but there was no response at the time of publishing.
