Algeria kicked off their tournament in fine style after thrashing Uganda 3-0, while South Africa are yet to play their first game after receiving a bye for the first round of group games.
Bougherra was reportedly not happy with his players' performances and demanded to see certain aspects improve if they wanted to go far in the tournament, and hoped to see that in the game against South Africa, WinWin reported.
"It’s good to start the tournament with an important win against the hosts, especially from a morale perspective," Bougherra said. "Now we must confirm this win with another against South Africa."
He admitted that the game against Bafana Bafana would be a true test of his side's ambitions and capabilities for the tournament.
"Facing South Africa will be a real test for us," the Algerian said. "We are focused and will approach each match as if it’s a final."
He added, "We know South Africa will be playing their first match, but they have a strong team with a quality squad. It will be a tough game, but our goal remains the same — nothing but victory. This was a clear indication of Algeria’s desire to continue collecting points to remain top of Group C.
