McCarthy, the son of Chiefs legend Fabian McCarthy, has impressed the Amakhosi technical team with his dedication on and off the field, and Nabi is convinced that the 21-year-old has all the makings of a future national team regular.
“I believe that Aden McCarthy is definitely a future Bafana Bafana player,” Nabi said at the Betway Premiership launch on Tuesday.
“He’s a boy that lives football. You can see it in the way he takes care of his body, the way he manages his mind, and how seriously he approaches the game.”
While the Tunisian mentor acknowledged that McCarthy is still on a learning curve, he stressed the importance of game time and experience to aid the defender’s development.
“We can’t deny that he’s still a young player who is going to make mistakes in the future. But how he copes with those mistakes will determine his trajectory. We believe he’s a player that needs to play more games, to get into more situations, and with time and experience, he will get there.”
McCarthy has been training with the first team since last season and featured during pre-season friendlies in Europe, with the technical team closely monitoring his progression.
