The story
Former Kaizer Chiefs and Leeds United captain Lucas Radebe took a trip down memory lane to show off his second-ever match-worn jersey from The Whites, which is also the first type of kit he donned at the club.
Radebe shares the story behind one of his most memorable Leeds jerseys — the Asics Away shirt that was worn between 1994 to 1996. The legendary centre-back spoke on the relic Leeds top on the latest episode of "My Favourite Things" with Betway, featuring on the show in his capacity as a brand ambassador.
It's not just the eye-catching green and navy stripe design that stands out with Rhoo's Leeds kit; the 56-year-old revealed how his second-ever Leeds shirt became iconic, partly because the first he wore had his name spelt wrong as R-E-D-E-B-E.
"This is my second jersey, the first one I ever wore had my name spelt wrong, they spelt it R-E-D-E-B-E, and as you can see, it's a squad jersey, number 27. So, this is my first jersey at Leeds, and I treasure it.
"I haven't washed it, it's still dirty, it still stinks a little bit, but it brings back memories of what I've achieved in my career, what I've done for the club and what the club has done for me. It led to 12 years at Leeds United, Champions League semi-finalist, UEFA Cup semi-finalist, and brought all the big teams to Elland Road," shared Radebe.
Rhoo went on to elaborate on the amazing support he received at the club at Elland Road, where he has a suite named after him.
"The one thing I won't forget is the support. The atmosphere at Elland Road is amazing, something I've never experienced before. It's a great club, a great city, that’s where I belong. Leeds United, always, for life," said the Leeds United legend.
