Early reports emerging from Egypt revealed that incoming coach Jose Riveiro was looking to sign South African defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi from his former side.
it was said that Riveiro wanted the defender to be his first signing.
According to Sport El Watan, journalist Muhib Abdul Hadi reports that the Spanish coach had told the Al Ahly management that Mbokazi was the top name on his shopping list as he was familiar with the 19-year-old's defensive capabilities.
"Al-Ahly club officials have already begun exploring the possibility of signing South African defender Mbekezile Mbokazi during the upcoming summer transfer window, ahead of the Club World Cup, with the player being registered under the exceptional registration period that FIFA announced would open starting next June," Hadi said.
The management are believed to have approved this request to target Mbokazi.
Reports from Al-Nahar revealed that Al Ahly are looking to add a defender, as well as a left-back, to their squad ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.
"Al-Ahly was on its way to completing two deals, and this is 100% certain," journalist Ahmed Shobeir said.
"The first was for a defender because Al-Ahly was already satisfied with the defensive and attacking midfield players. The second deal was for a left-back, and they will be announced after the end of the season, so that the clubs from which the players were brought in will have finished their matches for the season," he added.
It remains to be seen whether Mbokazi is one of the deals mentioned.
