Broos: 'We Are Rather Old', No Passport! Player Misses Out

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has revealed that a TS Galaxy defender has missed out on a call-up due to not having a passport.

Khulumani Ndamane has been in fine form for Galaxy this season and has caught the attention of Broos during the process. The player was a shoe in for a place in the squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Benin, but will not be part of the team because he currently does not have a passport, as revealed by Broos after announcing his 23-man squad on Thursday afternoon.

Ndamane, a Kaizer Chiefs product, has made 21 appearances in all competitions and Broos was hoping to bring in the 20-year-old, due to a concern of having an aging defence.

"First of all, I was a little bit surprised at the beginning of the week when Helman and I were looking at the age of our defenders. We are rather old. We have some young ones that we wanted to see, but the problem is you play qualifiers. You can't afford to do experiments, so they have to wait," Broos said after announcing his squad.

"He (Ndamane) was in the team, but he don't have a passport. I hear the chairman saying of the team last week, (he was) saying I have to take more players of Galaxy. I want to take them, but they don't have passports. I am very sorry about that and it's not the first time. Those guys are losing out on selection in the national team because they are not in order. They know that they are on that list. If you don't have a passport, go and get a passport."

Ndamane, though, will probably get more opportunities to represent the national team in future. He has shown a lot of quality under coach Adnan Beganovic at Galaxy this season and Broos could give him another opportunity when Bafana Bafana play friendly internationals during the off-season.
