The newly-formed Siwelele FC are already drawing attention, and not just because of their fresh start in Bloemfontein following the acquisition of SuperSport United’s topflight status, but also due to the familiar names that turned out for the club during their friendly match at Megawatt Park on Wednesday.

With the club still assembling its squad ahead of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership campaign, several well-known faces were spotted in action, some of whom have been out of the spotlight in recent months.
Among those was Jesse Donn, who surprised many by lacing up his boots once again. The midfielder announced his retirement from professional football last year but now appears to be eyeing a return to the topflight with Siwelele.
Another unexpected name was Buhle Mkhwanazi, who previously played for the club in its SuperSport days. The veteran centre-back parted ways with the club at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic due to his personal stance on vaccinations, but now seems open to reigniting his professional career.
The Siya crew also noted the presence of Kamohelo Mahlatsi, formerly of Kaizer Chiefs, and Xola Mlambo, the ex-Orlando Pirates midfielder, both of whom are trying their luck during the club’s trial phase.
However, there were some notable absentees, including Thulani Hlatshwayo, who is reportedly set to reunite with Gavin Hunt at Durban City, as well as Bradley Grobler (who will feature for Sekhukhune United this season), Nyiko Mobbie, and Terrence Dzvukamanja, who are all believed to be exploring alternative opportunities.
While Siwelele have yet to confirm their full technical team, early indications suggest that the bulk of SuperSport United’s previous backroom staff will stay on for the time being, pending further decisions from the club’s hierarchy.
