Result: Mamelodi Sundowns 0-5 Bloemfontein Celtic
Date: 15 April 2015
Venue: Lucas Moripe Stadium
Bloemfontein Celtic took Mamelodi Sundowns to the cleaners after thrashing the Tshwane outfit 5-0 in an Absa Premiership match at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday night.
The loss for Sundowns virtually ends their title challenge as they trail league leaders Kaizer Chiefs by 13 points (on 47 points) with only five games to go, while Celtic occupy fifth place on the table with 37 points.
It was a blistering start from the Bloemfontein side who opened the scoring in the first minute following a composed finish from Lerato Lamola after a swift attacking move, 1-0.
Celtic continued to push forward and doubled their lead seven minutes later with a well-taken finish from Frank Mhango.
Things went from bad to worse for the home side when Denis Onyango was shown a straight red card for a studs-up tackle on Lamola after he broke through on goal.
That was followed by Sundowns' first substitute as Kennedy Mweene had to come on to replace Themba Zwane.
Despite being down to ten men, the Brazilians began to dictate terms in the middle of the park, but struggled to break down a well-organised Celtic defence.
Sundowns'first decent effort on goal only came in the 38th minute when Hlompho Kekana let fly a shot from distance, but saw his effort sail narrowly over the target.
The first half ended 2-0 in favour of Celtic.
It was a nightmare start to the second half for the home side as Celtic put the result beyond doubt five minutes after the restart when Thapelo Morena fired home a left wing cross from Keegan Ritchie to make it 3-0.
In the 54th minute, a powerful 24-yard shot from Musa Nyatama found the bottom left corner of the net to make it 4-0.
It was 5-0 three minutes later when Mhango grabbed his second of the night after heading home a left wing cross from Mukuka Mulenga.
Celtic took their foot off the pedal after that and cruised to a comfortable win while Sundowns never really threatened in attack.
Here is how they lined-up.
