From Regular To Sub: Bucs Star Man Reacts To New Role

Fortune Makaringe has gone from being Orlando Pirates' most used player two seasons ago to being used sparingly in the current campaign, but what has changed for the midfield maestro?

Makaringe played 45 matches in 2020/21, no other Pirates player had played more in that time.

However under coach Jose Riveiro, Makaringe's role has changed slightly with the Spanish coach.

So far this campaign, Makaringe has made just two starts in six matches, having been introduced as a substitute on four occasions. Despite his altered role in the team, the former Maritzburg United midfielder has taken a positive outlook on his situation, saying that he will bide his time and wait for his opportunity.

"I think for one to grow in life, you need to have the will to learn and I would say its my phase to learn from observing, so that whenever I go onto the field of play I express myself better, so I am going day by day with the help of my teammates and my coaches," he told journalists.

Pirates are already blessed with a number of talented midfielders, but the club have added the diminutive Phillip Ndlondlo to their ranks, something that Makaringe welcomes with open arms.

"Well for me and Ndlondlo, we go a long way and for him coming into our team. It made me very, very happy and I'll be honest and say I was very happy with him coming into our team because I know that he is going to help us a lot. As much as everyone that has come into our team, is gonna help us. So, its for him to learn from everyone and try and apply himself the Pirates way until he gets his opportunity to help us," he continued.
