Orlando Pirates have made it clear they mean business ahead of the 2025/26 season, and with nine new signings already confirmed, the club’s evolving squad has set tongues wagging across South African football.
The headline arrival of Bafana Bafana attacker Oswin Appollis adds firepower to an already competitive forward line, while midfield and defensive reinforcements have also flooded in. Among the new names are Sipho Mbule, Yanela Mbuthuma, and Sinoxolo Kwayiba, as the Buccaneers look to mount serious challenges both domestically and in the CAF Champions League.

With this influx of talent, it’s inevitable that changes will shake the rest of the squad, particularly affecting those who struggled for regular minutes last season.
At the end of the 2024/25 campaign, Pirates confirmed parting ways with senior figures such as Innocent Maela (though he remains at the club in another role), Miguel Timm, Thabiso Monyane, and Paseka Mako – sending a clear message that competition for places will be fierce going forward.
As the Soweto giants now enter the final stages of pre-season preparations, a group of at least 10 players are understood to be facing uncertain futures at the club.
